Wet and Windy Uruguay

Leaving Buenos Aires on a wet and windy morning I caught a ferry across to Colonia, Uruguay. It was equally wet and windy there, and after dumping bags at the hotel we had a wander around the town. It was very quaint and probably is a really enjoyable place to visit in the sunshine… instead we struggled just to stand upright in the wind!

From Colonia we took a 3 hour bus ride to the capital, Montevideo. Quite a pleasant city flanked by water. On the first day it was wet and windy again, but on the second there was a complete turnaround and we were rewarded with beautiful sunshine, so we all hired bikes and rode 24km around the coastline of the city.

From Montevideo we then took a bus to an estancia just outside of Mercedes. Didn´t get far before we encountered a slight problem…

Our front tyre completely blew up!

Soon we had a replacement tyre and arrived at our destination, a lovely little farm. Here we did all sorts: relaxed, ate good food, tried horse riding, rounded up a cow and it´s calf, made our own bread then later milked a cow.
